Fuelling passion for ice-skating:Anime Yuri on Ice

Expressions and human emotions are the prime themes used in almost every anime, may it be a heartfelt drama like Fruit’s basket,Anohana:The flower we saw that day or Angel beats,Your lie in April or the intense last episode of Death Parade and it’s overall theme of people trying to lead fulfilling lives emotion is and has always been one of the key aspects of manga and anime makers and it’s one of the main reasons why it has garnered so many fans worldwide.

Coming to Yuri on Ice ,it is as you may have guessed an anime containing a lot of emotion as it is an anime on Ice skating. It follows the story of Yuri Katsuki a 23 year old Ice-skater who once participated in the Grand Prix but comes last,with a man named Victor Nikiporov who is about to retire. Getting disheartened from his defeat Yuri returns home after five long years where he decides to do Victor’s winning moves in the Grand Prix and nails them perfectly. His performance is recorded and the video goes viral resulting in Victor taking notice of him and leaving Russia to travel to Japan to train him and also another skater Yuri Plisetsky,that starts the  journey for Yuri with the desire to win the upcoming Grand Prix and garnering amazing experiences along the way to express himself in the amazing sport of Ice Skating.

Yuri!!! on Ice began airing on TV Asahi from October 5, 2016. The anime is produced by MAPPA, directed by Sayo Yamamoto and written by Mitsurō Kubo, with character designs by Tadashi Hiramatsu, music by Taro Umebayashi and Taku Matsushiba, and figure skating choreography by Kenji Miyamoto.The series is being simulcast by Crunchyroll as it airs in Japan, while Funimation are scheduled to release an English dub of the series beginning on October 24, 2016, at 10:00 p.m.

The opening theme is “History Maker” by Dean Fujioka, while the ending theme is “You Only Live Once” by Wataru Hatano.

Yuri!!! on Ice will have 6 Blu-ray/DVD sets, the first Blu-ray/DVD set will be release on December 30, 2016. Each Blu-ray/DVD will include special goods and bonus features, such as booklets, staff audio commentary, costumes designs and choreography videos about the anime.

  1. I wasn’t expecting to love this anime so much but it’s actually pretty great. The animation of the ice skating choreography is out of this world and I adore the characters. The only bad thing is that I hate the opening song but it’s easy to skip that.
